THE BERRIGANS:
DEVOUT AND DANGEROUS
A Documentary Film

We were asked to create marketing and branding for the documentary film, The Berrigans: Devout and Dangerous. The film tells the story of the Berrigan brothers—Daniel and Philip, both priests, and Elizabeth McAlister, a nun and later Philip’s wife. In 1970 they landed on the FBI’s Most Wanted List for their opposition to the Vietnam War, and they continued their non violent resistance for the next half century. The Berrigans took on the Catholic Church and the United States government at the peril of their freedom, families and reputation. They sacrificed everything—defying the church they held so dear, spending years of their lives in prison, and parenting from behind bars—to demonstrate the true fundamentals of Christianity: peace, equality and the guts to tell the truth. Devout and Dangerous makes the point that non violent direct action is as relevant today as it was in the past.

We repurposed the actual mug shots of Daniel, Philip and Elizabeth for the film poster. We were also brought in to create the films title design.

The film is currently touring film festivals with release expected in Spring 2022. Directed by Susan Hagedorn, with Bill Pullman, Liam Neeson, Martin Sheen, Daniel Ellsberg, and Jeremy Scahill.
